Android Gmail App Setup (cPanel Email)

Quick Settings Reference

Copy these exact settings – Gmail may try to guess these incorrectly:

⚠️ Important: Use port 465 for outgoing mail — not 587.


Step-by-Step Setup

1. Open Gmail App

  • Open the Gmail app on your Android device

  • If this is your first email account, tap Add an email address

  • If Gmail is already set up:

    • Tap your profile picture (top right)

    • Tap Add another account

2. Choose Account Type

  • Tap Other

  • Do not choose Google, Outlook, or anything else

3. Enter Your Email Address

  • Enter your full email address

  • Tap Next

  • When prompted, tap Manual setup

4. Choose Account Type

  • Select Personal (IMAP)

  • Do not choose POP3

5. Enter Your Password

  • Enter your email password

  • Tap Next

6. Incoming Server Settings

  • Username: Your full email address

  • Password: Your email password

  • Server: mail.yourdomainnamehere

  • Port: 993

  • Security type: SSL/TLS

  • Tap Next

7. Outgoing Server Settings

  • SMTP Server: mail.yourdomainnamehere

  • Port: 465

  • Security type: SSL/TLS

  • Require sign-in: Enabled

  • Username: Your full email address

  • Password: Your email password

  • Tap Next

8. Account Options

  • Choose your sync frequency

  • Ensure Sync email is enabled

  • Enable notifications if desired

  • Tap Next

9. Account Name

  • Set a name for this account (e.g. "Council Email")

  • Choose your display name for sent emails

  • Tap Next to finish setup


Testing Your Setup

  • Send a test email to yourself

  • Confirm it appears in your Sent folder

  • Ask someone to send you a reply

  • Make sure it arrives in your inbox


Troubleshooting Common Issues

"Can't connect to server"

  • Double-check server: mail.yourdomainnamehere

  • Ensure port 993 (IMAP) and SSL/TLS are selected

  • Recheck password (case-sensitive)

  • Try switching between WiFi and mobile data

Email stuck in Outbox

  • Go to Gmail App > Settings > Your account > Server settings

  • Ensure:

    • SMTP server: mail.yourdomainnamehere

    • Port: 465

    • SSL/TLS selected

    • Require sign-in enabled

    • Username and password are correct

"Authentication failed"

  • Make sure username is full email address
